Los Angeles Dish of the Month (Decembver 2013) - Nominations

Los Angeles Dish of the Month (December 2013) - Nominations

The last DotM of the year.

We all the drill by now, but in case you do not. The idea is this: choose a 'Dish of the Month' for the LA area and then collectively try as many versions of this dish as possible during the month of December reporting back with details and photos. It's great to talk about places you've been in the past, but the idea is to explore new places and make new discoveries.

The dish that gets chosen to end the year with a bang might be something very specific (Rice Krispy Treats) but might also be more of a dish category (Cereal). It's up to everyone here, but it probably makes sense to choose something that locals are excited about trying and finding the best and most interesting versions!

Some ideas off the top of my head to perhaps get the juices flowing:

SAUSAGES
PEPPERMINT DESSERTS
SPHERICAL FOODS (e.g., meatballs, oranges, donut holes, etc.)
GRILLED CHEESE
RED FOODS (e.g. apples, tomatoes, etc.)

Anyway, this is the nomination thread for December 2013…you can nominate as many dishes as you want, but once we do the voting thread (which will start on November 26), it will be one vote per user.

To nominate a dish, please (please!) post it in ALL CAPS in the responses below. This thread will be open until 11:59 PM PT on November 25th.

Thanks Hon! You can have my portion if it wins! ;0)

Seriously, I'm with you on this. I'll never forget eating a piece of Taro Cake at Dim Sum thinking that it was Turnip Cake (which I love).

    2. PANCAKES & WAFFLES & FRENCH TOAST

        1. SPHERICAL FOODS (you are so funny)

            C'mon Bob.

You know that would be kind of cool, right?

I can just see it now, TheOffalo giving us dish after dish of fish eyeballs!

            1. re: ipsedixit

              Fish balls, fish balls,
              Roly poly fish balls.
              Fish balls, fish balls,
              Eat them up, yum!

I don't know..... Seems to me that that category is a bit discriminatory against square & rectangular foods......

                1. re: Dirtywextraolives

This is a nomination thread so I do not see how discrimination (in the sense you are using the word) comes into play. If you are so moved, why not nominate square or rectangular foods?
Just do not nominate triangular foods, because they are clearly inferior to the others, with just 3 sides :)

                    1. re: Ciao Bob

Oh, nobody wants to invite those losers......!

                      1. re: Ciao Bob

Aren't slices of pizza triangular (save for the debate on casa bianca, of course) ?

Was this your thesis, Dear? Nice work.....

Such plagiarism, I believe it WAS Kevin who first said,

"Our map can be used to reformulate the FUCKING reflection integral as an integral in the sphere by using a change of SHITTY variables which yields an integrand with lower variation."

                                1. re: Ciao Bob

                                  Ok.

Should I count you or Kevin as having nominated both "fucking" and "shitty" for December?

                                  1. re: ipsedixit

I'm on probation. But yes that would be me.

                                    1. re: kevin

If either wins, you have to be the first to try both dishes.

                              2. re: Dirtywextraolives

Yeah, and what about two-dimensiony foods like fruit rolls?

                                1. re: bulavinaka

Make fun of me all you want but right now "spherical foods" is actually in the lead.

                                  1. re: ipsedixit

                                    Ballsy already?

                                    PANCAKES, WAFFLES & FRENCH TOAST

                                    1. re: ipsedixit

Huh? I certainly demand a recount! That's not what I get at all ;-)

                              3. PANCAKES, WAFFLES & FRENCH TOAST

                                1. PASTA (already got my Bestia res)
RICE DISHES (ditto Tar and Roses paella res)

I'll second that. It's truffle season.

                                    PASTA (bonus points for truffles).

                                    RICE DISHES (risotto).

                                                  Ok. You asked for it.

                                                  The FUCKING FUNGHI.

(thought I had forgotten about that over this past month, didn't ya?!)

                                    1. CRAB season just started.

                                      1. in honor of decembver, which i take to be a cross between november and december, i suggest brunch, which is of course a cross between breakfast and lunch.

                                                I'll change my vote to:

                                                TARO

                                                That will give me
The excuse I need to get back to Fosselmans.

                                                1. re: kevin

You don't have to change anything.

You can nominate as many times as you wish, but can only vote once.

                                                      Right.

That's why it's called a "Nomination" thread. It wasn't by accident.
