The Best Homemade Bagels

I love making bagels at home! Even the best store bought just can't compare to a fresh, chewy homemade bagel right out of the oven. My daughter likes blueberry, my nephew swears by cheddar & jalapeno, and my grandson will devour anything I make!

So, I'm wondering what everyone's favorite bagel flavor is?

  1. I am spoiled rotten by bagel choices in nyc, and always stick to the classics.
    Pumpernickle
    Sesame
    Cinnamon raisin (not often)

          1. Plain bagel that was made by boiling first then baking. That is the way I saw them being produced in a New York deli on TV years ago.

            As far as fruit is concerned in bagels, our people did not have time to put fruit in the bagels as they crossed the Red Sea that Moses parted as they were fleeing from the pursuing Egyptians.

              And although I make pretty good bagels, boiled them baked, as far as I am concerned they don't hold a candle to the real NY ones of my youth. Sigh.

                  all hand rolled, boiled then baked in my outdoor woodfired pizza oven.

                  I started making bagels for a living more than 40 years ago. I left the business in 1978. I still make bagels each week (except Passover) at home and have never made, and will never make a bagel with fruit or cheese in it...sheer heresy.
