Would you eat Non Domestic Shrimp

Picked up 2 blocks of 21/25 Ocean Garden Shrimp from my spot for shrimp cocktail....was busy yakking on my cell phone so I just grabbed the OG boxes and headed off.

Turns out it was not the typical non STP Gulf shrimp I get but it was from India with the STP in it...

Junk the shrimp or would you serve it.

Chem, now you're shouting at yourself! When I lived in NYC, I got used to those who talked to themselves, as there are many, but the ones who shouted at themselves made me nervous!

Get out of my head, Cat-Man. Get out. Argh!

(I lived in Berkeley for many years. I am very familiar with people who talk to themselves)

                    Probably before your time!

Hahaha! I do live in nyc and the ones who shout make me cross the street to avoid them....

          2. Shrimps are dunzo. Heh, if I figuered I had to post a question on them, it was halfway to the trash already.

Siggh...it's my own fault for not checking the box thoroughly.

            1. There is very little domestic (if you mean the US of A) shrimp. But if I couldn't return it, I'd do something with it before I threw it out.

                1. I wouldn't junk them but I wouldn't use them for shrimp cocktail.
And ease up on the phone!

My thoughts exactly- i'm sure you and your guests have had them at restaurants not realizing it. Maybe blitz together with some cream cheese, dill, onion and mayo and serve with crackers like my grandma's ever popular shrimp dip

                  2. Wow, I'd never throw them away. If you don't want to use them, donate to a soup kitchen or something. They're not poison.

If they aren't poison, why would chefwong throw them away?

Read DonShirer's link above for the answer to your poison question!

If you wouldn't eat them don't give them to 'the poor'. Give them to the garborature.
When we consume unsafe food we add to the problem of people harvesting/growing/producing unsafe food/s.

Garborature? Is that a fancy word for the art of dumpster diving?

Ha Ha! It's the word (probably misspelled) for that machine that grinds up table scraps and Birks sterling teaspoons under the sink. LOL

                    2. Use them in a gumbo or jambalaya.

                      1. I would use them in a gumbo or jambalaya or some such thing.

                        1. other than you, and perhaps a few more of us on these boards, most wouldn't know the diff. serve them, donate them, do what you will with them, just do not consume them yourself.

                          1. Where I am in the world, I cannot find any mention of sodium tripolyphosphate being an issue. Our Food Standards Agency has nothing to say on the matter. As such I'd happily eat seafood from anywhere without worrying about this for one second.
