Rec's for Vietnamese Food-Not West Bank?

Anyone have any recommendations for Vietnamese food on the East Bank. Uptown, LGD,CBD, Marigny? Really good Pho?

  1. In Metairie, there is Pho Orchid and Pho Nola, both good if unspectacular.

    1. Thanks Sanglier, Still looking for reviews of Uptown, Downtown, Bywater

      1. Here is Tom Fitzmorris' list of Vietnamese restaurants with ratings. Highest rated not on the East Bank is Cafe Minh on Canal Street.

        1. Viet places are popping up like weeds all over the metro area. Uptown, you can choose from Jazmine Cafe (so-so), Pho Bistreaux (okay, decent pho), Ba Chi Canteen (mostly viet with some twists like kimchi fries), Magasin (a pho shop for those unfamiliar w/Viet cuisine, IMHO), Lily's Cafe (inexpensive, neighborhoody spot), and Pho Noi.

In mid-city, Doson's Noodle House has been around for years, and soon to open is Namese (read more here:

Out in JP, you can visit a branch of Pho Bang on Vets, Pho Sunrise a bit farther out on Vets in Kenner, or Than Truc Bistro also in Kenner. Pho NOLA or Pho Orchid are in Metairie closer to Clearview, and Harahan has Kim Anh.

Of course, the motherlode of EastBank viet is out in the east.

Each place has its partisans. My favorites remain Pho Tau Bay for pho and Tan Dinh for non-pho stuff (like goat curry, lemongrass chicken wings, and the specials written on the board by the entrance). But both are on the WBank.

Goat curry at Tan Dinh?! Didn't know that, just got the impetus to visit them for the first time. Don't know what the hell I've been waiting for! Thanks Celeste.

You're least three different goat dishes on the menu, as well as frogs legs, roasted quail, jellyfish & squid salad, marinated short ribs. Don't overlook the ridiculously good chicken wings, though.
