DooWee & Rice Closing

Just saw it on their Facebook page. Horrible news...We're huge fans of their food and put it high on our list of weeknight take-out rotation.

  1. He's closing because he'd rather open a restaurant in London?

    Seriously?

    This is the worst food news of 2013.

    Duy Tran seems to have aspirations of being the next David Chang, but Chang didn't shut down Momofuku Noodle Bar and Ssam Bar when he wanted to write a cookbook, expand his empire, and become a celebrity chef.

              Back in my bachelor days we actually used to call it Wonder Bra.

    2. This makes me SO SAD. I asked on FB and he said a "unique chinese restaurant" is taking over the space, and he helped them develop their menu. I'm still sad. We'll probably go tonight even though I'm sure it'll be mobbed.

          He says that WonderBar is still on, and that he's focusing on that and the new London location of DooWee. He also says he'll be distributing his sauces for use in restaurants around the area, including the Teriyaki House that's taking over his space.

            I can't believe that of all projects he's favoring one where he's in the basement of an allston college Dbag bar

              If I remember correctly, WonderBar is where he got his start as a line cook and he's taking it as a sort of challenge to 'upgrade' the place with a selection of his bao buns and sauces.

              But I'm sort of with you -- his Somerville location is so popular that it sells out of food before closing nearly every night, lines out the door.. but he'd rather be in Allston with a limited menu?

              Then again last year he nearly closed the Somerville location in favor of doing The Great Food Truck Race so I have no idea what's going on in Duy's head.

                I saw him mention on twitter to someone that the wonder bar spot will allow him to offer more varieties of baos as he was no longer limited by the somerville space, or something like that. So perhaps it was a kitchen size issue?
