Hat Creek on Burnet....?

Drove by this morning, and they were in the process of taking down the giant hat sign....Closing? Made to change their sign since it was the former Arby's sign? Anyone know the scoop?

  1. I dropped in this morning to find out - the sign is down. I always liked the Arby's/Hat Creek transition, but apparently the sign had to come down because of Arby's lawyers. . Hat Creek is doing a major expansion at that site - the whole shop is gutted and they are expanding over the sidewalk.. I heard, (separately) that they were applying for a liquor license. The guy said that the sign issue "it's no skin off my nose." I think it should be a rule to have neon signs on the new South Austin strip that is Burnet. Hopefully they will put one in.

I wondered how Arby's felt about that sign...guess we now know. Glad to hear it's an expansion and they're not closing! Thanks for finding out for us....

I've mentioned the trademark issue with the sign here a couple times. Are they going to have toi recall all the T-shirts, too? Some have the Arby's hat logo on it ;-)

Yeah, it's always surprised me that they were able to do that... I can't believe they didn't get the cease & desist sooner.

They must have had an informal "OK" from Arby's at least in the beginning. Because the first thing a restaurant does when it goes under is remove all identifying signage. But nothing says Arby's brand more than the iconic hat. Weird <shrug>

pardon the tangent, but doesn't arby's roast beef show up to the store as a bag of liquid meat?

Are you trolling or just extremely gullible?

        2. The other day I was talking to the owner of another restaurant on Burnet Road and he mentioned there was some kind of dispute between Hat Creek and Arby's Corporate. I checked out Hat Creek's Yelp page and it says they are temporarily closed, but will re-open on March 1, 2014.

Closed for remodeling (looked too much like Arby's is my guess). Their 3 other locations still open.

Speaking of which, Arby's just started selling their Arby Sauce and Horsey Sauce in 11.5oz bottles for $2.50/each. Giddyup! Too bad I just bought a 16oz bottle of Woebers Horseradish Sauce for $2.29 - even better.
