NOLA long weekend, please review itinerary, am open to suggestions
My BF and I arrive next Thursday afternoon and leave Sunday afternoon.
We both have been to NOLA before, this is a birthday celebration for my BF. I grew up in the South, and he is from England. Last trip, in August 2013 we had an excellent meal at Emeril's and Mr. B's. Both of us had not been to NOLA in many, many years. Now, we can hardly wait to return!
So far, I have narrowed it down to the following:
Thursday night -- K-Paul's or should I try and switch to Irene's - I can't
make up my mind
Friday lunch - Commander's Palace -- or should we try instead Galatoire's
Friday night - NOLA
Saturday lunch - I thought Cochon Butcher
Saturday night - Kermit Ruffins at 7 p.m. so we will eat at Little Gem Saloon
Sunday jazz brunch - Arnaud's before we leave town.
Thanks so much for any input. We enjoy all types of food.
We loved the Carousel Bar -- that is definitely making the list again!
I am a BIG fan of Irene's. We eat there usually once a week.
Lucky you, Thursday is Turtle Soup night. Think it is the best in NO. Make a reservation, but there is usually still a wait unless you go early or after 8:30 PM. Either way, I hope you enjoy the piano player in the bar and the wonderful food and atmosphere of Irene's.
Fridays are packed at Gals, you'd probably end up eating upstairs. I would choose to Commander's...$0.25 martinis and cosmos.
TaTee -- I called Irene's and they have availability at 5:30 p.m. The person who made the reservation thought we would be able to make it at that time even though our flight arrives at 4:15. I left the K-Paul reservation at 7, in case we don't make it to the FQ in time for Irene's.
That is a nice list. It covers a lot of bases and you should enjoy the visit.
The one thing I can comment on is there is a big difference between K-Paul's Cajun and Irene's Italian. While the latter might be a better overall restaurant for me it would come down to what type of food I'd want.
Thank you collardman. I love cajun/creole/southern cooking
(although I have to stay away from other's fried chicken because there is none better than my momma's and Aunt's ! They even have the family cast iron "traveling" skillet passed down from generations that it HAS to be friedd in !!) I also love Italian food and visit Italy yearly.
Thus my dilemma! My BF just lets me decide and goes along for the ride!
