More mobile viewing problems.... or, where'd it go?

Chowhound has disappeared on my Android LG Marquee phone.

Or, rather, the text appears while the page is loading, and then suddenly it goes to a blank, white page when the page finishes loading.

In order to view the text on the page, I have to manually stop the page from loading completely, before it gets whitewashed.

This problem occurs on Firefox, Boat Browser and Lightning using 2.3 Gingerbread. The problem does not occur on any other sites viewed with these browsers on this phone.

This has been happening for several days.

  1. This happens to me also, on an iPad. The site support doesn't seem to think this is their problem. They clearly did something to cause it and ought to be able to figure out what it was.

I know there was just a recent mobile site release to fix the "black abyss" problem so it seems likely that some other problem popped up while they were fixing that one.

Engineering, please fix this. The mobile site is once again unusable.

    2. Thanks for your reports, we're looking into it.

Any new updates? I still can't view Chowhound on my Kindle which is what I use most often. Thanks.

      2. Add me to the list. It's been so annoying and futile that I've removed Chowhound from from my phone.

        1. you could try chrome, it has been working fine for me through all changes, mind you I am running jellybean which also might have something to do with it

Chrome isn't available to download for Gingerbread.

          2. If you're on an older operating system or using an older version of a Web browser, your best bet is to upgrade. As is standard industry practice, we're only able to support the two most recent versions of any given OS or browser. So for your Android device Mr Taster we'd suggest upgrading to 4.0 or above.

What do you recommend that Kindle Fire users do?

              1. re: DeborahL

                That's not very nice.

Even though my LG Marquee is rooted, there is no Android 3.0+ rom available for it, and to upgrade to a new phone requires a plan costing an extra $10/month, forever.

How can I justify that, when every other site I use my phone for works fine on this operating system? And *especially* when it worked fine before you "fixed" the black abyss problem?

You broke my Chowhound, Chowhound. That's really, really not cool.

PLEASE provide a "full site" option for users with mobile browsers.

                  That way:

                  a) you don't need to spend time and resources debugging the mobile site, which Chow HQ has been very clear about not wanting to do

                  b) you'll satisfy a whole lot of other users with modern operating systems who have been clamoring for a "full site" option anyway.

It's an easy workaround that will satisfy old OS users as well as new ones who don't want a mobile experience. Give us the full site on mobile devices.

It's time for a FSFMUO™! (Full Site For Mobile Users Option™)

In my case Deborah, I'm using a PC and have updated everything. I'm the most up-dated I've ever been. Still No Horizontal bar, etc. has I had just last week.
