real (meatless) food near Hampton Inn Detroit Novi @14 mile road?

Any recommendations for a dinner alone on a Sat night near this hotel - not looking for fancy, but also want to avoid chain restaurants. I'd need a vegetarian meal (or fish, but not shellfish.) Not high end, but doesn't need to be cheap either. Thanks in advance.

There are some Indian options, but I'd try to squeeze in at the counter of the Ajishin Japanese noodle place about four miles from you. No liquor license. Will be very crowded, so you may want to call and discuss your schedule with them.

Have you been to a Japanese restaurant that is patronized by area Japanese? There is one in Novi: Fumi, on Novi Rd. just north of 10 Mile. Not vegetarian, but there are plenty of fish and noodle dishes. BTW, although the sushi is OK here, it's not the main attraction. Heavily Japanese clientele, and there are a fair number of solo diners—engineers visiting to work in the cooperative auto plants and design offices. Ajishin is also good; it's slightly more American oriented.

You are twenty minutes from root and they have a great vegetarion option on their menu.

Holy cow, MC...I was about to call you a liar regarding the distance/time, but when I checked it out, you are correct! 21 minutes according to Google Maps. Impressive! Certainly could flex to a bit longer during the busier parts of the commuter day, but I doubt it'd take any longer than half an hour in just about any case.

And he's right: The Root would be a terrific place to fit your needs, especially considering your hotel's location. It'll even be a pretty nice drive up there, all things considered!

Yes, boagman, it is a nice drive. But probably should throw in that it is easy to get lost on that drive. But just keep heading north until you hit M59 and you'll be good.
I had the single best vegetarian experience ever at Root, the cauliflower lentil spicy stirfry. Though I did have them throw a fired egg on top, so not reelly vegetarian.

That does sound like a dish right up their alley. I tried the curried cauliflower side dish from them once and was extremely happy with it.

Siam Spicy is on Novi Road and Twelve Mile Road. They have vegetarian options.

I really like their Pla Lad Prik.... catfish in a black bean sauce. Very tasty.

Their other options are very good as well. And they have beer/wine which might be a plus depending on your tastes.

There is also Shiro for Japanese/sushi. I haven't been there in a very long time so I can't give a personal recommendation regarding their food/service. Perhaps someone else has been there recently and could comment.

I went to Shiro a couple of years ago and had a good experience. Elegant, pleasant place; menu has some fusion aspects.
