Carlsbad around Christmas

t
Teddybear Nov 8, 2013 06:32 AM

Due to various diet restrictions, I'm looking for some restaurants offering good but plainly prepared food --grilled fish, salads, all-day breakfast, something that can accommodate low-sodium, low-carb diets. We're more interested in lunch than dinner and also enjoy a little booze with lunch.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Fish House Vera Cruz, in Carlsbad Village, has excellent simply prepared grilled seafood options. Don's Country Kitchen for breakfast.

Bobbie's - on El Camino Real. Real food all day long. One of the things I look forward to on my trips back home - we always head over for breakfast at the very least!

Not quite Carlsbad, but Solace and the Moonlight Lounge in Encinitas and Rimels in Cardiff offer great grub.

Thanks -- the menu looks good, but we'd have to see if they can prepare the fish without the various crusts and glazes. Such a drag . . .

The Chart House in Cardiff might qualify. Although not outstanding, they generally can do good simple salads, grilled fish, etc. And...they do have a full bar and make good drinks.

Good to know one's available in case of emergencies. My experience with various Chart Houses is mixed, but they are generally dependable for what I'm looking for.

It has a great ocean view, and as already noted although not special is dependably decent.

Ki's in Cardiff is a place that is good for lunch (great view) and has very healthy and low-carb food. Breakfast options too. I believe they have wine and beer too.

Forgot to add a couple of places that will be great for you.

                Claire's on Cedros in Solana Beach..great breakfast/lunch
Rancho Valencia Resort for lunch at the Pony Room..FAB!
                Haggo's organic tacos in Leucadia
                Blue Ribbon
                El Especial Norte

Most places will cook things plain/sos/no spices..just ask

Try and make it to the Hotel Del Coronado..the place is unbelievable they way they decorate for Xmas..plus, they have an oceanfront skating rink.
