Jodie's in Albany needs local support

One of my favorite local spots, Jodie's Restaurant in Albany, is looking for community support to either remodel or move altogether. It's really an institution and I'm hopeful they'll find a way to stay in business. The food is great and the atmosphere is incredibly unique and special.

I wrote a story about it today:

They can no longer sell their famous fried chicken but there is SO MUCH MORE to enjoy on the menu. The burger is great and their version of eggs Benedict is fantastic. As noted in earlier threads -- the hash browns are also standouts, as are the grits. If you haven't been there, I highly recommend a visit.

  1. I was surprised to see a sign on the window today -- reopening soon. I haven't noticed any construction yet, but I guess the problems will be worked out.

    1. I spoke with Jodie's today and they said they are NOT re-opening at that spot in Albany.

How odd (and too bad). That sign must've been pretty new. I walk past there a couple of times a week.

      2. There are flyers on the door at Jodie's old place: Coming Soon Lizzie & Mr. C's Cajun Cafe. I can't find anything about it on the Goog, except it may be related to a Mr. C who runs "Zydeco Nights", with food, in El Cerrito (

More information: According to a source, Mr C is a member of the Eagles Hall in El Cerrito and put on dances there from time to time. Mr C also apparently owns the beauty salon in that building and may own the whole building. Finally, the source says Mr C makes awesome fried chicken.
