Looking for medium priced Italian for 7 people near the Alexander Inn (Spruce at 12th St.). Also looking for medium priced Sunday Brunch for 4 people also close to the hotel. Any help appreciated!

  1. Mercato is a very good byob within walking distance.

    1. I would make reservations as far in advance as you can, as it's popular.

      1. Mercato might be rough for 7 people, it's tiny, cramped and deafeningly loud, you probably wont able to hear anyone besides the person right next you.

Of course most restaurants are loud these days but Mercato is extreme.

A short cab ride away, I like Hosteria Da Elio near 2nd & South (also BYOB). Very reasonable prices, service can be hit or miss but generally is good.

Brunch: Kanella (make reservation) or Green Eggs (dont think they take res, may be a wait). I also really like Dandelion for brunch (a nice stroll down Walnut St or a short cab ride) and they do take res.

        1. I would suggest Amis for either the dinner or the brunch.

          1. Thanks for the suggestions.
I have booked Hostario da Elio for Saturday night.
I now need a vegan friendly spot for Sunday brunch after the marathon!

I would suggest either of the Sabrina's locations, because I'm pretty sure they have vegan options, but I'm definitely sure they will be slammed. Call ahead to put your name in.

Royal tavern has good vegan options good, it gets busy but shouldn't be as bad as places closet to the marathon.

            2. Reporting back on our visit to Hostaria da Elio - group of nine - our table was waiting and we were seated promptly. BYOB.
Eggplant appetizer, chicken with goat cheese and Carmelized onions entree and the spumoni Tartuffe dessert were the favorites. Very good food and service and fair prices. Bill was $230- plus tip.
Ended up at Serafina's on Sunday for AL Cabrino pizza and drinks. Enjoyed it and the waiter was excellent.
