Andrea's 25 in Mamaroneck...
The Husband and I went out with another couple to Andrea's 25 last night. When we walked in, I was very confused by the set up. It seems like its a multi-level house and the bottom level is the bar/waiting area. No host or hostess in sight. We got drinks at the bar and noticed a number of people waiting around, some also looking to check in. About 20 mins later, I found the host who took my name and told me to let him know when he had all arrived. We had an 8 o'clock reservation. At some point, he let me know not to close our bar tab b/c it might be a bit of a wait He said he'd buy us a round. And, the bar room continued to fill with people who also had reservations. He started buying lots of rounds for groups.
A woman waiting with her husband told me, " This has happened to us the other 2 times we've been here and this is silly. After tonight, we won't be back!" ( I don't know why they endured an hour + wait 2ce and came back for a 3rd, but to each her own...)
We waited more than an hour to sit in a spot not very conducive for waiting around. He did bring appetizers over when I pressed him about the fact that we had been drinking for a while and had nothing to eat. To his credit, he did take very seriously the fact that one of us had a lactose issue and was very careful with what he suggested. We had fried calamari and broccoli rabe sausage "egg rolls".
My husband told me that we were comped 1 round during that hour. the bar tab was still $100 for the 4 of us.
As it crept closer to 9, I honestly wanted to leave and head someplace else, but I wasn't sure where to head that point as 4 ppl on a Saturday night.
The service was very friendly, but the food was nothing special at all. It was almost 10 by the time we ate. My husband said his gnocchi tasted like nothing at all. My dijon shrimp with balsamic dipping sauce was a circle of shrimp with a cup of balsamic vinegarette dressing in the center. The other couple wasn't bowled over, either.
When I saw 1/2 of the other couple today she told me, " next time let's go to Pieros', or Louie's ( in Greenwich, CT) or any place else for Italian. That was really not good. It's off my list"."
Off mine, too. There are some serious issues to iron out here.
