Squid Luau on Maui or Kauai?

No, not THAT kind of luau! Squid luau is made by cooking lu'au leaves (young taro leaves) and squid in coconut milk until the leaves are tender...

I've had it at Mama's Fish House on Maui. Where else does a good version on Maui or Kauai?

  1. Looks like Four Sisters in Wailuku (Maui) has it on Fridays.

Also found that Ishihara Market in Waimea (for Kauai) has it.

    1. Do you mean lau lau leaves?

Lu`au is more a feast, often accompanied by Hawaiian dance.

Here's some more information & photos about squid luau (the dish):

It may be served AT a luau but I'm looking for it at a restaurant/store.

Check out this discussion of squid luau on Trip Advisor. Post 6 (and others) state that it is actually made with octopus even though it's called squid lua'u. Places to get it on Kaua'i and Oahu are discussed in the thread too.

I am not going to Oahu on this trip and am looking for places on Maui and Kauai. Do you know of any?

Unfortunately that TA thread doesn't really help me on Maui.

I do have Ishihara on Kauai on my list already (see my comment above).

When you get it in a restaurant I'm pretty sure it's usually made with squid.
