Good, cheap restaurant near Royal Ontario Museum.

Seeking recommendations for dinner-time cheap eats near the Royal Ontario Museum. Inexpensive is key; type of food is flexible, except no sushi or Ethiopian.

The Oxley might work, decent pub grub, also the Museum Tavern across the street from ROM. Lots of other choices in Yorkville too.

I definitely wouldn't call either of those places "Cheap eats" though..

It is about a 10 minute walk to Crepe a Go Go at the corner of Bloor/Spadina. Some other restaurants in the "Annex" area (as mentioned by peasontoast above).

But, if you are looking for something closer I don't really have any recs because what is more in the direct area seems $$

Try Insomnia at Bathurst and Bloor.

          Unfortunately, not all that close!

Google Maps says it's an 18 minute walk. It's 2 subway stations. I guess I must have a different definition of "close". Shrug.

The Coffee Mill at 99 Yorkville Ave. is about a 10-minute walk from the ROM. It's a Hungarian resto that been around forever, and has always been reasonably priced. Good service, warm atmosphere. Pretty much the best value buy in Yorkville, a part of town not known for good value. Absolutely no sushi or Ethiopian dishes on offer.

There is a Fox and Fiddle at 280 Bloor St. http://www.bloorfox.com/

I have never been there, but mentioned it due to it's proximity.

The Duke of York at Bedford and Prince Arthur offers reasonably priced pub food.

A while back I tried Slab burger at 47 Charles St. Not quite as good as Holy Chuck or Priest, but still better then most. If you are looking for sit down, I would second the Coffee Mill.

Whatever you do don't go to L'espress Bar Mercurio.

We had one of the worst lunches EVER there last weekend. Honestly, 4 of us and everyone felt the same. The food was pure crap!
