Finished. Terrible news. The Lana brand cream cheese and the 2% cottage cheese are amazing. Imagine having to eat Philadelphia cream cheese? Impossible. Are Lana brand products available elsewhere?

End of an era. Sad, but it's kind of nice they don't want to sell the business and risk someone else tarnishing the name.

So it seems they still want to sell their wholesale goods and continue catering. Which is good.

I hope they manage to get Daiter's wholesale products into the right stores.

Their (low-fat) cheese blintzes and their potato varenikes are the best in the city. Hope they continue to make and wholesale them.

        Their cottage cheese is amazing.

Listen, not sure how anyone can feel bad. They'll get $5 million for that building and never have to wake up at 4:30 AM ever again. good for them and i wish them all the best.

I think it was meant sad for us - not them.

And yes, good for them. They deserve it!

Some better cream cheese options might be Astro or LIberty.

We usually get our cream cheese when we get our bagels at Bagel House. Not sure who supplies them. That would be a good question to ask next time I go in.

Western cream cheese is fantastic imo. I do agree though, big loss to the city.
I think western supplies a number of bagel houses and supermarkets. (Kiva's, they did supply sun valley, loblaws.....)

Ahhh I wondered who supplied Sun Valley. It was very good.

Western's cream cheese is very good. We use their 'light' and it's very close in taste and texture to the regular. By the way, I hate Philly.

Western Light is always in my fridge.

Agreed.... never without it. We were out once at my daughter tried a bagel with Philly (cream cheese is her favourite thing in the world) and she refused to eat the Philly, can't blame her.

Oh I eat Philly in a pinch, but Western always my go-to :)

Organic Meadow has a really good (light) cream cheese, on a par with Western/Liberté (both of which are now owned by the same company - General Mills!) I prefer to support Organic Meadow than General Mills.

I did not know that. Thanks Tatai, will have to try the Organic Meadow variety. :)

Great cottage cheese as others have mentioned. Never a fan of Daiter's cream cheese (too thin).

Agreed re: Philly Cream cheese. It is horrible.

That being said, Western Cream Cheese is pretty good. Available at my Superstore (and I'm guessing Loblaws in T.O.)

Really grim news. I went to school with one of the Daiter descendants and always felt a special connection with them. But I guess they are all happy enough.
