Thanksgiving Turkeys

sarahb0485 Oct 28, 2013 10:26 AM

I know it seems rather early to be thinking about this, but Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.

I'm looking for a Bourbon Red Turkey (not frozen) that can be picked up in Manhattan on Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Anyone have any places that they would recommend?

I don't have first hand experience with this, but I did see them at Union Square farmers market last year. Maybe check Violet Hill?

Dickson's Farm or the Meat Hook may be worth reaching out to, though I don't recall either having the Bourbon Reds.

Reservations for turkeys were already being taken two weeks ago. I don't know if the specific breed, but there were two farms offering fresh turkeys that day and there are probably a couple more.

Fairway says they carry heritage turkeys, but I am not sure if they have that particular type. There is a thanksgiving "tasting" this weekend at some stores.

Check out farm2kitchenlongisland.com They deliver fresh produce and poultry from the North Fork of LI.
They sell local fresh turkeys from Miloski's Farm. I am not sure what the minimum order is but the delivery charge to Manhattan is reasonable.

I'm pretty sure Quattro's has Bourbon Reds. They're at Union Square Sat and Wed.
