Thanksgiving Turkeys

I know it seems rather early to be thinking about this, but Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.

I'm looking for a Bourbon Red Turkey (not frozen) that can be picked up in Manhattan on Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Anyone have any places that they would recommend?

  1. I don't have first hand experience with this, but I did see them at Union Square farmers market last year. Maybe check Violet Hill?

Dickson's Farm or the Meat Hook may be worth reaching out to, though I don't recall either having the Bourbon Reds.

    1. Reservations for turkeys were already being taken two weeks ago. I don't know if the specific breed, but there were two farms offering fresh turkeys that day and there are probably a couple more.

      1. Fairway says they carry heritage turkeys, but I am not sure if they have that particular type. There is a thanksgiving "tasting" this weekend at some stores.

        1. Check out farm2kitchenlongisland.com They deliver fresh produce and poultry from the North Fork of LI.
They sell local fresh turkeys from Miloski's Farm. I am not sure what the minimum order is but the delivery charge to Manhattan is reasonable.

          1. I'm pretty sure Quattro's has Bourbon Reds. They're at Union Square Sat and Wed.
