Lunch off of Rt 90 Albany area

Seeking new recommendations for a quick lunch when passing through the area. We are familiar with East Greenbush Diner and find it OK. Any other good places that are a quick hop off of the highway?

  1. If you're familiar with the EG Diner then you are not far from Chez Mike. Lunch is available Tue - Sat. It is not necessarily French. Check out their menu.

Another consideration would be Risotto. Lunch available Mon-Sat. It's more Mediterranean

Also close to I-90, you might like Creo. Lunch every day. A bit more on the expensive side, but pretty solid.

If you are interested in "chain" restaurants, just about all of them can be found on Wolf Road, parallel to I-87. If you have a special interest in a particular type of food, maybe we can recommend something that is still not far off I-90. Will you be continuing West on I-90 or heading elsewhere?

Provence is another good lunch place in Stuyvesant Plaza (where Creo is located):

The Ginger Man on Western Ave. (parking behind restaurant):

Thanks for the suggestions. My trips continue west to Rt 88.

If you want a good price on gas, when you get off I-90 onto I-88, take the very first exit on I-88 after you've passed through the toll booths. Turn left at the top of the ramp and drive to the traffic light (rt. 7). On your right will be a Pilot truck stop with the best gas prices in the Capital District. Have a safe trip.

I like Pepper Jacks in Albany. They have great homemade soups and salads. You can also get a delicious cheese steak there.

        3. If you want something casual, you might like Beff's, which is on Everett Road (I think exit 5) off I-90.

On I-88, you could go to Brook's BBQ in Oneonta

          1. Another place that we love in East Greenbush is Off Shore Pier. It's a restaurant and fish market, so the fish and seafood are really fresh. It's incredibly cheap, too.

            1. AndyGT, where did you end up? How was it?

              1. There are a couple of good lunches to be had on Central Avenue by the Everett Road exit. Hokkaido is quite decent Japanese and is never crowded. Behind it and not visible from the street, Grappa 72 is serving lunch these days. They make a tasty risotto, among other things. Capital Thai is a little storefront place with pretty good Thai food; it's easy to miss, in a tiny strip mall across from a Taco Bell. A few miles further West on Central there's Grandma's for old fashioned comfort food, the kind of place that serves pot roast and meatloaf. It certainly isn't gourmet or health food but they do a mighty rich & creamy turkey soup.
