Empire State South, ATL

The wife and I are visiting next weekend and were looking forward to trying it as we are Hugh Acheson fans. Unfortunately, they are closed for a private event that night. Anybody know of a similar alternative Midtown, Buckhead, Perimeter? Free parking or near Marta a plus.

Thanks. We've also got our eye on Ford Fry's new place King and Duke.

I would go with King and Duke over Miller Union. Everything I hear recently (and from what I experienced personally), Miller Union is underwhelming.
The Spence is near MARTA. Always an interesting menu there and tasty choices.

We ate at King and Duke for the first time last week. Had the beef tartare, boy scout trout, and sides of acorn squash and charred spicy corn. Really enjoyed all of it, and the service was really good save it taking a little while to get the bill at the end.

I hadn't been in the space since a bad Valentine's meal at Nava many years ago. I'm a sucker for a serious wood-fired grill in the kitchen.

    1. Jeff, I've had some good meals at Miller Union - there's free street parking very close, or Marta bus line #12 from midtown station which runs within 3 blocks.

      1. Thanks, y'all. Made a res at King and Duke, but may be able to squeeze in something else for Sunday brunch. Suggestions? Also, it looks like we'll be stopping in Athens on the way down for a show at the Georgia Theatre. Anything new worth trying there? (We like both Five and Ten and The National but have been to both several times.)

Looks good, esp. since we won't have time for a multi-course feast. Thanks.

Plus, I forgot to mention, it's right next door to the GA Theater. Oh, and the Branded Butcher provides food for the rooftop bar at the GA Theater, so you might want to look into that as an option, too.

            Local Three for brunch.
            Or General Muir.
