Whatever happened to Dan Funk?

Chef/owner (and grossly underrated creative genius), Dan Funk, has fallen off the radar. After his New Orleans Cafe in Boothwyn disappeared (following very successful stints on Essington Ave and in Media, he is not to be found. His creations were outstanding. Has anyone heard what happened to him?

  1. I used to love the NO Cafe in Media, but I have no idea what happened after they moved to Boothwyn. I still have his spiral-bound cookbook from the NO Cafe.

      Wow! I wish I had known about the book. Who was the publisher? I could not find one on Ebay or Amazon.
      My search failed to turn up anything about Dan except a special dinner last year at the Social Lounge in West Chester. I really hope another restaurant is in the works.

        It was self-published, I think they only sold it there at the NO Cafe. I'll see if I can find my old copy, I may not actually have it anymore. A lot of the recipes called for "Chef Dan's Secret Spice Blend", the formula for which wasn't included in the cookbook but was sold in bottles at the restaurant.

            I called twice last evening. No answer on a Friday night? Social Lounge must have folded.

    2. CP, sent email to the address posted on the web site for the Social Lounge.

      The response follows: "He is alive and well here in Westchester at the social lounge and like a fine wine he's gotten better with age. Dan cooks every Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday brunch. He features $5 small plates for happy hour as well as daily lunch and dinner specials."

          "Thanks...I just read his post. We had an hour wait on Friday so we stop answering the phone for reservations. Thanks for posting and if you or Chefpaulo ever come to the restaurant please don't hesitate to ask for myself, don, or Dan!
