Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos - as well as BKK, ICN and TPE
My wife and I are going on a delayed honeymoon in November to Hanoi (side trips to Sapa and Halong Bay), Siem Reap, Bangkok (near Krung Thonburi) and Chiang Mai. We'll also have layovers in BKK, ICN and TPE. It's been a difficult year for us so we're just now getting to pay attention to this trip and are behind on planning meals. Any suggestions for these places, as well as the airports? Any recommendations for cooking schools in Hanoi or Chiang Mai would also be appreciated. Thanks!
HI, Just got back from ten days in Vietnam, had some absolutely amazing food.
In Sapa, would recommend the Hill Station, very unique but excellent especially the ash baked trout
In Hanoi would suggest the Mango Tree, slightly higher priced but excellent fare. Also try the grilled pork skewers you get on the streets, delicious. Street food on the whole is amazing in Hanoi, one must try would be the Bun Cha at Dai Kim's in the old quarter
Halong Bay we were on the cruise the whole time, we stayed on Valentine cruise and found it superb.
If you do make it to Ho Chi Minh I recommend you go on the night time vespa tours to eat some strange but delicious food
Hope that helps
I spend a lot of time in Hanoi. I'm not sure how much time you have, or how adventurous you are. If you are adventurous, try the street food or any one of the many outdoor cafes you might see full of locals. Many places have either English menus or a menu with photos.
For the less adventurous, a good introduction is Khai Brother's, which is a buffet in a nice courtyard. There is also a great French restaurant called Green Tangerine. For something low key, you can try Au Lac cafe, which has moved from its original location across from the Metropole and is now on Nguyen Khac Can street.
You can probably also find a lot more on the boards.
