semi-romantic new american or italian restaurant in the Valley?

I'm gonna be stuck in the valley with my gf tonight. We're looking to grab some food and catch up. Anything decent around? Not looking for anything too fancy or too casual. We live in Hollywood. My favorite restaurants are in Silverlake. Anything near Studio City or Encino would be fine.

    1. Not fancy or "wow", but DH and I like Café Bizou for casual meals. Decent food, not overwhelming, not too loud, etc. It's not amazing, but it's fine for what it is.

I like Spumoni for Italian. LOVE their gnocchi!

There's also Carnival if you're in the mood for Mediterranean food.

      1. Well, where did you end up going?
My thoughts as a local is that none of the places mentioned are even semi-romantic.
In fact a couple of them are down right NOISY, crowded, bright lights, etc.

        1. We ended up at Spumoni. Amazing service. Not exactly a romantic restaurant but it was cozy. The food was okay. Wouldn't return but glad we checked it out! Plenty of restaurants do Italian much better. In terms of food quality. Speranza comes to mind. Wish there was one in the Valley.

Did you get the gnocchi? It's not fine dining, for sure, but it hits the spot, and the owners and staff are so nice.

I'm staying away from gluten so didn't order that.

There are really NO good Italian places in the valley, especially if you want to remain gluten free.
Mezzomondo in Studio City and Gio are better than most, yet most of the rest are awful, as in you could open a can at home...

If you want great Italian in the valley, I strongly suggest Gio Cucina .

Spumoni is not a good Italian restaurant. It's a mediocre chain.

In fact, let me be more direct - Spumoni SUCKS.

There have to be better Italian restaurants in the Valley.

I agree with you my man.

The best in Encino is Gia Cucina.
