Steakhouse with great shrimp cocktail?

What steakhouses would you recommend that has a great shrimp cocktail appetizer in the West LA area? I'd like to keep the bill to around $150 total (two glasses of wine, shrimp cocktail, two steaks and one side). Any help would be great, thanks!

Agree re: Mastro's shrimp cocktail. Huge shrimp, properly cooked, and a nifty presentation with the dry ice.

Yup their shrimp cocktails are seriously good and HUGE.

          1. Mastros might be a little bit of a stretch, probably closer to $200 depending on the wine, but they do have the best steaks around and a great crab cocktail as well. Ate there last night and had a near perfect bone-in ribeye, crab cocktail, shoestring potatoes, sautéed spinach, wedge salad plus desserts, delicious!

What desserts did you have there ?

For some reason, I want to say that they might make souffles ??????

              Thanks.

            2. The Brentwood serves a fine shrimp cocktail and a damn good steak

I have never had their shriimp cocktail. Have you?

                  1. re: Thor123

I have. It's classic, steakhouse style, though it's not to be confused with the shrimp scampi appetizer.

Four jumbo shrimp (not a lot) peeking off the side of the goblet with the cocktail sauce riding shotgun inside the goblet.

                2. I ended up at Mastros and my date loved the shrimp cocktail (and bone in ribeye)! Thanks for the recommendation!

One might ask what you plan to do for an encore (entree?)? You've set that bar pretty damn high... (g)

                          1. re: Servorg

Encore ? Dessert ? More drinks ? Or the other kind of "encore" ?

                            1. re: kevin

Too many encore meals like that and no one will want an other kind of encore.

Hah! Had key lime pie for dessert but it wasn't worth mentioning...crust too thick and hard but filling was okay. I actually prefer Houstons key lime pie to Mastros.

                          2. Smokehouse in Burbank. It's a high quality, no-frills shrimp cocktail with tasty sauce. Call me nostalgic.

I still have not hit up this fucking joint even after all these years.

The garlic cheese bread is supposed to be quite epic too, right ?

What's good to eat ? Or is the food in general beyond pedestrian ?

                              1. re: kevin

Go to have a drink (or 4) sometime. The food is serviceable if you keep it really simple (filet, baked potato) and the cheese bread is good if you aren't afraid of cheetos. A lot of Naugas died in the making of their booths.

Oh, for fuck's sake, I love Cheetos more than life itself.

                                  Naughahyde booths so there.

                                  How's the bar scene ?

                                    "How's the bar scene ?"

Easier to get a seat at than Tana's...

                                      1. re: kevin

Sucking down a martini there would probably not be too onerous...it's got a great old school vibe I enjoy.

Ok, i will hit it up since sometimes i'm in burbank anyhow.

And by "a martini" you mean like four or five, right ????
