Bison Burger

  • 6

Looking for a lunch spot that serves up a juicy bison burger. Prefer Minneapolis area and west. Thoughts?

  1. Not sure if 50th and France is too far out, but IMO Red Cow serves up one of the best bison burgers in the area. Carmelized onions, figs and goat cheese. Dynamite.

I've had another nice version at Republic down at 7 corners...although food has overall been hit or miss there. Brie with a red wine reduction sauce. Flavor was great, reduction could have been reduced a bit longer.

I really disliked the bison burger at Red Cow, it was extremely salty and the goat cheese and not really caramelized onions just didn't work for me. I found the gritty texture of the figs just annoying.

Guess they were reaching for some creative signature touch, but it really would have been so much better topped with swiss or cheddar and a slice of tomato, onion and lettuce.

My kid's shrimp poorboy was flirting with being inedible too. Sad, I was hoping to find a decent place to eat in the neighborhood. Also I think I could have gone to Tilias for about the same price.

      Chacun a son gout.

    2. It's been a while, but I recall having a good bison burger at Hell's Kitchen, in downtown Minneapolis.

      1. I always liked the ones they served up at Buster's on 28th which had great burgers generally. However, they have been out of commission since a fire during the big storm last June. I believe they are working on a reno in order to re-open but haven't heard any status updates recently.

        1. Trotter's in St. Paul has a great buffalo burger. OK, it's not in Minneapolis, but it's just across the river on Marshall (aka St. Paul's name for Lake Street).

However, I wouldn't exactly call this burger "juicy". It's the opposite of dry, but bison is a lean meat that isn't naturally juicy on its own. So add a slice of cheddar and you'll never notice the lack of juice...

          1. If it ever reopens, Buster's on 28th had a terrific bison burger.
