Potato rolls locally?

  • 6

I've seen many mentions on this site and other discussion boards about Martin's Potato Rolls for hamburgers and hot dogs; I think they've even been recommended on Serious Eats. That brand is not available here and I've been looking for a substitute but can only find dinner rolls and supermarket loaves. I think I may have seen potato bread at CM but not as hamburger/hot dog buns. Any body know of a local source?

  1. I hate questions with zero replies.

I don't know if they have them here in Houston, but apparently Target sells Orowheat Potato buns.

    Ditto Walmart.

It's been years since I've been in either one though.

Please let us know if you find them.

I was sure I had seen them before and thought it was WM so I went and looked but maybe I did it wrong. I don't usually buy supermarket bread so I wasn't familiar with the arrangement and I just looked at the section with all the HB and HD buns by different makers but there is a separate section for Oroweat I think. I'll have to go back.

If Oroweat makes 'em surely someone in town carries 'em.

No Targets within 25 mins of me and I haven't been in one in years.

      Thanks for the tip.

    2. I saw some potato buns at Fresh Market on Memorial this morning. They were packaged as if house made but I can't say

I haven't been to FM so far but now I have another reason to check it out. All I've found so far is Oroweat Country Potato bread so i bought a loaf and have used it for sandwiches and to fold around a wiener. It's a little coarse textured for the latter but I like the flavor over plain white bread/hot dog buns.

        1. Made it to TFM for the first time yesterday. No potato rolls for hot dogs but I did pick up some hamburger buns and have been improvising, cutting wieners in half and placing side by side (they're 4" buns). Brucie likes 'em. Good flavor, aroma, texture, very fresh. Next time I'll ask if they have hot dog buns if I don't see them because I'm really more of a hot dog addict than a burger fan these days.

          $2.99 for 8.

I'll report otherwise on TFM on the other thread.
