Pappy Van Winkle Bottle Search

I know it's impossible to find, extremely desired etc etc. Does anybody know of store that has a bottle or two for sale from this year's fall allocation (I think it is out or due out shortly) I would be willing to pay black market prices for it....

  1. Call and ask if Astor is doing a lottery or Union Sq Wines is doing a wait list again this year. IIRC Warehouse was first come, first served in the past. I've gotten on a wait list from Park Ave Liquors before but never gotten lucky.

They may not be doing wait lists or lotteries this year since the allocations went from 2x a year to 1x a year and the allocations themselves are even smaller than before. Especially after the theft of 200 bottles as reported earlier this week!

It's up to the discretion of the distributors what store gets what.

There is only one distributor for NY state, Southern Wine and Spirits. They will be the ones who determine which retailers receive stock. On their Facebook page Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery is predicting it won't hit actual stores until end of Oct/early November. It's all about how quickly the distributor moves.

Unfortunately, I think more and more stores aren't selling to people they don't already consider as regulars.

    1. If you want to pay black market prices, it's not hard to find. But black market prices differ in each city. I know of one in NYC that has most of the line in stock, and it starts at $1,000 per bottle for the younger expressions, and goes up by multiples after that. While I understand the concept of supply and demand, I am shocked that someone would pay that much for a whiskey that isn't even made in the Stitzel-Weller distillery anymore (and even if it was...).

Anyway, I hope people continue to go nuts for PVW, and leave some of my other favorite rare bourbons and ryes alone.

      1. re: Pago77 to share which store this is since clearly you are not going to be purchasing from them?

Sure, didn't know if that price tag was what you anticipated. Bottle & Soul on the UES.

      2. Thanks kathryn, I'm on Astor's wait list again and have been on theirs and several others in the past - to no avail. I would think any of the big stores only distibute to their friends/ good customers...

That is why i'm ready to pay up.

        1. as recently as 3 or 4 years ago this was sort of easy to get. Now it is impossible and I guard my remaining 2 20Y bottles... Always wondering when it will be OK to have some...

Jeffersons Reserve "Very Old" is a decent substitute

          1. You've probably seen this, but I thought I'd put up a link:
