Seattlite looking for best South Indian restaurant in Vancouver

Got spoiled on really good South Indian food in Singapore. We don't have too much down here. What's the best place in Vancouver? Thanks!

  1. is my all time fave-I've seen a number of Singaporeans there.

There's said to one in some remote suburb (Delta maybe?) that's worth the drive.

    1. re: Sam Salmon

      We had Saravanaa Bhavan:

And they were quite good on the two times I've been for dinner early on in their tenure. Since closing, there's a new operation there, also Indian, but I know nothing about them nor whether they're northern or southern biased.

    2. My vote would go to Desi Dosa Madras in Surrey/Delta. I haven't been to Singapore, but have spent a number of years in South India and DDM comes close. You'll need a car to get there, but assuming you're driving up, that shouldn't be a problem. If you need to rely on public transportation, then Madras Dosa House would be a better bet, although I don't particularly care for their offerings. Another option is House of Dosas, which is OK. I'd give Saravanaa (now Sargam House) a miss -- as LR said, they were very good when they first opened but went downhill rapidly until they changed hands a short while ago. I haven't heard good reports on the new restaurant.
