Food Humor in Cartoons

alkapal Oct 16, 2013 06:58 AM

I found this to be very funny, so am sharing:

Not a cartoon, but a "commentary" on Martha Stewart's horrid food photo tweets: http://www.buzzfeed.com/rachelzarrell...

I think MS should get a new camera or start eating prettier food. LOL

With food like that, I think I would eat in the dark. ;-)

i know! i was really surprised how awful the food looked, and that she chose to publish them proudly (being the maven of fastidious presentations herself). i was also shocked at the places she was eating. i know the prices, so seeing those dishes made me think "wow! i expected something *quite* different!"

Maybe a drink or two before dinner made the food look better? "Beer goggles"? 8-)

      Good one! Thanks.

I like the old Far Side cartoon that shows a cow cooking hamburgers at a cookout. My brother used to have that one on a t-shirt.

In the 80's my sister bought me a t-shirt with this frog legs cartoon on the front. No I didn't wear it.

Don't have it handy, but I am sure this was done decades earlier in The New Yorker.

I think it was originally in National Lampoon.

I still enjoy the caricature you did of Veggo the snake, nattily attired with bow tie, scarfing a Katz' pastrami sandwich!

The New Yorker has the best cartoons, and this is one of my favorites from a while back. Apparently I'm not the only one, because I was able to search for it based on the caption.

if you're interested in spoofs, watch annoying orange's parody of ylvis' parody "what does the fox say?" (you should watch the ylvis original first). ylvis' original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_3231409599&feature=iv&src_vid=J19z4VTCR9M&v=jofNR_WkoCE

annoying orange's version: "what does the sock say?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J19z4V...

yes, this is food humor because annoying orange, pear and baby carrot are involved. LOL.

PS, i have to warn you that despite your realization of your own silliness for doing so, you will watch both of these more than once. ok, maybe it is just me.

There's a Pearls Before Swine strip where Pig sees a tv commercial about travel in Australia with the old "Throw another shrimp on the barbie!" catch phrase. The last panel shows him throwing a shrimp on a Barbie doll and saying something like, "This doesn't seem so fun."

There are lots of cartoons in Secret Ingredients, the anthology of the New Yorker's food writing.

                                            And a corollary:
Caption reads "It started out with lactose, but now he's intolerant of EVERYTHING."

This was a favorite of a late friend, who always needed to depart on business trips a day early. This was because her retired husband would be underfoot, asking her to make his coffee, find him matching socks, etc., if she was trying to get on the road in time for an early flight or drive.
Yet when she was gone for several days, he did fine feeding himself and taking care of their pets. She liked to say that her HUSBAND was happily married.....
