My favorite for pho is Tan Tan, in a little strip mall atop the knoll at Peyton Gin and Ohlen. Many variants, tho I always stick to the basic pho--very thick, hearty, fragrant and rich, good meats and ample veggies. (For all other Viet, I'd recommend Sunflower in big shopping center on Research where the Asian supermarket is.)

Kim Phung at Lamar and 183 is outstanding. Affordable, big menu, cool atmosphere. Also a favorite of Austin mini-celebs like Bob Schneider, Sandra B, etc. Another plus is it's byob, so bring a bottle of wine. You'll need your own corkscrew though.

Sagiang on North Research (near Mongolian Grill) is really good. Lots of grilled meat dishes as well. VERY tasty. Friendly owners.

Tan-Tan on Ohlen Road is also really good. A lot of Vietnamese eat there (always a good sign).
