Tonight feels like a grilled cheese and tomato soup night...where do you think has the best tomato soup in the DC area?

HA! I thought about suggesting that but was afraid folks would think I was being snarky. their refrigerated Safeway Selects Tomato is actually really good (but in an unusual for me measure, I've never read the label - I'm sure it's unhealthy)

All of the Safeway soups that I've tried are quite good, but they're loaded with sodium (though not overly salty, so whatever it is is sneaky - MSG perhaps?) so I usually wait until they're on sale to buy one or two containers.

It is easy to make. The fastest recipe is the Rachel Ray recipe on Food Network. Many of the other recipes require that you roast the tomatoes...this one uses crushed can tomatoes and chicken stock....I would follow her recommendation to use Kitchen Basics stock vs store brand broth. If you don't want to use heavy cream replace the cream with half & half for milk. For the grilled cheese I use french bread (toast thin slices) and melt Gruyere cheese...then float them on your tomato soup like islands. I'm sure the Whole Foods near GWU has tomato soup....when I want comfort food I go to Founding Farmers.
