I know this is cliche, but I really tend to lean hard on Whole Foods for cheese- the selection is consistently good, turned frequently, and is pretty interesting. There are plenty of local places to get cheese, of course, but even with my desire to support local businesses I tend to end up back at WF.

WF selection varies by store and some stores are much better than others. For excellent local options, Pastoral, Provenance and Publican all have excellent selections (prices are high but fair).

Great point- never thought of Publican for cheese, but that's a great idea!

I get so many kinds of amazing cheese from them at the Downers Grove and Hinsdale farmers' markets. I think the markets are over, but sign up for their emails and you can get winter cheese drops. I am in no way affiliated - just a big fan.
