Favorite *non-apple pie* apple desserts?

ipsedixit Oct 10, 2013 10:06 PM

Like who makes a good apple ice cream?

How about an apple cake?

I was always fond of the apple paletas at La Flor de Michoacan, but this cold snap makes me yearn for something a bit more "warm".

Do share your favorite apple desserts that transcend the pie.

Oh, yes, apple crisp! Easily my favorite apple dessert. Even without the heavy cream, but preferably with. Thanks for the reminder, l'dancer.

The apple cider donuts with apple butter and salted caramel look interesting at Littlefork in Hollywood. Have not tried them.

id say they are pretty good, not as good as just a plain hot apple cider donut covered in cinnamon and sugar at the many apple barn places that dot new england tho...in that vein just smaller and with sauce...still enjoyable... id prefer a nice apple fritter from a number of our fine donut establishments -- i think you know a few...check out littlefork tho -- quite a deal for beer and oysters during early and late happy hours and some other nice dishes there.

I haven't tried this yet but perhaps this weekend: apple cider doughnut cake from Serious Eats. http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/20...
