What the hell was I thinking?! When I walked in and saw the buffet style set-up, I should have just turned around...but the lady at the counter was soooo nice.
This place seems to be a reinvention of the bbq place that was there before. Same steam table set-up. Same cafeteria system.
I arrived right at noon, but everything seemed like it had been out for hours. The rice was the consistency of oatmeal (with crusty edges), the meat may have been grilled but after sitting in the steam bins was now rubbery and waaaaaaaay too salty - actually had a chemical burn reaction to my tongue (and y'all know I'm no delicate flower when it comes to seasoning). Tortillas were pre-wrapped and sitting under a heat lamp, which made them quite tough. Cheese was that confetti-type pre-packaged stuff. Just a dismal meal despite the friendly staff.
Lamented I'd driven there and spent double the amount when I could have just walked across the street at had MUCH better fajitas at Taco Cabana.
I thoroughly enjoyed my potato, egg, bacon and cheese on flour with the roasted tomato salsa at Cabana yesterday. There's better, but for sure, that's a solid, reasonable metric. If they're in a "best of" category, they have to win the "best drive through tex-mexican with alcohol" category.
Yeah, when I need a quick fix, I'll get their black bean taco and load it up with Pico. I like to stop at the one on town lake when I'm running around the trail (OK, walking). It will be gone, soo, though.
Guess I'll skip Blue Banjo - I wonder if dinner is better (non-buffet....I hate buffets anyhow).
