Staying at the Hyatt downtown, looking for something close by but willing to venture out further. $$$-$$$$ Can't miss restaurant. Go!
Oleana! That's my can't miss.
Island Creek is a good choice for east coast seafood; ditto, Neptune Oyster though that place does not take reservations and is quite small.
...and the world's your oyster...
the board has dozens of threads from downtown visitors. check them out. also, a little info helps: what do you like? what don't you get at home?

9 park is within walking distance and overlooks the Boston Common. Ristorante Toscano is on beautiful Charles street and has been satisfying customers for over thirty years.
Island Creek Oyster Bar. Get a reservation pronto.
A cab ride away.
I'll happily second Island Creek and add Coppa Enoteca in the South End.
