Sushi

  • o

So Mikado on Laird was a long time favourite, and now hubby is looking for something similar and fairly close by. He has gone to Nigiriya on Millwood and thinks it just ok compared to Mikado. Any other suggestions? I am not the sushi eater so I am not really sure what he is after when it comes to this.

thanks

  1. Closest in 'style' and also 'Japanese' run is 'Aoyama' on Victoria Park and Finch.
'Katsura' inside Westin Prince Hotel on York Mills is very good but more expensive!!

    1. Ha! Nigiriya is our go to place. We found Mikado very meh.

And we have not found any other place in the area to go to, so I am very interested in suggestions. :)

      1. Just up the street on Eglinton (ok, you need a car) is Zen, which is amazing.

        1. Just walked by 214 Laird (that seemingly unlucky spot) a little while ago and saw a sign for a new sushi place called Kin Tako. The sign introduced the new owner as Eric Ryu and It was set to open on Feb 15. Has anyone been?

This looks promising. Unconventional, but promising. From 2009:

There are already a few of these that I'm aware of, including 2 near Yonge & Eglinton. They're meh, and still kinda pricey, all things considered. Also their soy sauce is kinda sweet.

My guess would be a few Sushi Shops. There is one at Briar Hill and the other at the RioCan Centre at Yonge and Eglinton.

Nothing saying Kin Take will be a carbon copy of Sushi Shop. I'm going with wait-and-see.

It's pretty meh. There is one in the food court near my office. They are avery roll heavy menu, several of which have cream cheese. It's better than average food court sushi, but certainly not worth an extra trip. It is pricey, but it is a nice alternative to usual food court fare like Subway, Manchu Wok, Tim's, etc. I do like the soy sauce.

            2. This is part of what my daughter and I had at Cafe Michi ( Sheppard & Pharmacy ) tonight!
Chirashi, Nigiri and rolls. Very FRESH Neta!!!

Looks delicious, Charles. I'm in Toronto in a few Tuesdays, and will have to eat here again. Is it a problem making a reservation to sit at the bar?

Yes!! They were pretty busy even on a week day like Wednesday! Better call ahead and save a spot!
