La Cantine de La Cigale - Top top, close to Lazare for top find of the month.

On another thread where it might not be noticed Parnassien noted that "Just been reminded by a friend that Christian Etchebest who runs a trio of very good Basque restaurants (le Troquet in the 15th, La Cantine du Troquet in the 14th, and--my fave-- La Cantine du Troquet Dupleix) has taken over the previously unremarkable Café Cigale now renamed La Cantine Cigale next to La Cigale. So for an after-concert dinner, problem solved. It just opened last week, no reviews so far, and I haven't been yet ... "

I went with another old friend/blogger today and the chalkboard here is more comprehensive than his prior three places; he was there the entire meal, descriptions and photos to follow. We had the eggs Mayo, pig's ears, onglet, Giant Sardines & mirabelle tarte - all super. I will return.

  1. Snap. By accident I had back to back meals at both Lazare and La Cantine Cigale last week. Both very late and no-rezzies. Loved both foodwise but, because of the more animated and very parisien crowd (surprising for this part of Montmartre), probably enjoyed La Cantine Cigale more.

Dude, you turned me onto La Cantine Cigale for which I am eternally grateful.

Blush blush. Your Montmartrois appreciation is all this Montparnassien needs.

BTW, "dude" is creeping into hip parisien bobo franglais. I blame oh-so-hip you and shall inform l'Académie Française accordingly. (Evil grin)

You'll have to shake them hard out of their pousse-café-induced nap. I'm afraid dude is here to stay. We girls still have a bit of time before "dudette" comes out.

I suspect that some académiciens are dead rather than napping.

And let's hope that dudette comes quickly.... so much better than gonzesse or zessegon or a dozen other argot/ verlan equivalents.

I like "gonze", just because it's so absurd it passes the circle of absurdity into cool territory... or maybe I've been hanging too much with hipsters...

Hm, maybe you're one too, after all I've never seen you.

                  Noooooooooooooo !

I can now say for sure that being called a hipster does change ones life deeply...

I will go to my room now, and think of what I've done... and maybe will shave my beard...

                    "shave my beard..."
But we're OT; back on - the Cantine de La Cigale is worth a visit folks.

                      You're right !
I will keep my head held high, hairy cheeks intact !

                2. re: Rio Yeti

As you pointed out in another post, we are indeed very similar. "Gonze" confirms it. But I'm beardless. :)

If we ever meet, I promise I will try not to pass judgement on your lack of facial hair.
