High-grade beef restaurant options in Fukuoka/Nagasaki

Due to a change in our schedule, we have had to cut out a planned stop in Osaka/Kobe and will be flying direct to Kyushu from Tokyo. Our main foodie loss is that we won't have a chance to visit any Osaka/Kobe area high-grade beef restaurants, as initially planned. Are there any decent options we can explore in Fukuoka or Nagasaki?

Also, our second beef-related question is do Japanese supermarkets offer the possibility to vacuum-pack beef? We would love to pick up a small slab of something to bring home.

Thank you.

  1. I've just realised that we're going straight to the origin of Saga beef...! Any suggestions on where exactly to go, please? Not much info available on the internet. We will have a car, and Saga is right between Fukuoka and Nagasaki.

    1. Not sure if this is the type of high grade beef you had in mind but we had really decent experience in both these places.

In Fukuoka, we had sukiyaki at Imahan in Hakata station. Imahan is a high end sukiyaki chain originally from Tokyo:

In Nagasaki, we had very reasonably priced yet top quality yakiniku at Osakaya :

      1. While you're down there you might also want to check out some high-end kurobuta (Berkshire pork) places. Heirloom-breed gourmet pork is the new Kobe beef, and Kyushu is where it's happening....

(Sorry though I don't have specific names of local restaurants.)
