Cepe/Porcini Mushrooms

Anyone know where can I get fresh cepes/porcini in or around Chicago? Thanks.

  1. My favorite mushroom. I have found them at Whole Foods, but it seems to be a very short season, and they are a splurge.

I'll try there. Also maybe Fresh Farms. Thanks.

    2. When in season, I've seen it at Whole Foods, Treasure Island, and yes, even Fresh Farms in Niles. I've also seen it sometimes at Stanley's,but that's more hit or miss vs the others. You may also have some luck at your local farmer's market. River Valley Ranch, which specializes in mushrooms, can be seen at the Green City Market, Logan Square, Evanston, etc etc etc.

I shall start the search tomorrow. Green Mkt. on Wednesday.
I will report back my success or lack thereof. I am just back from the Dordogne where I had 2 wonderful Omelettes aux Cepes. Ahhhhhhhh...... Thanks.

I found them this spring, same time as morels. Will be curious to hear if you find them in Chicago this time of year--Italy yes, Chicago, not so sure.

It is the beginning of the season in France.

      2. Finally found them at Whole Foods today. Thanks everyone for your input.
