It really isn't a surprise that they landed in Lake Grove - it's only a surprise that it took them so long.

Seems all their new stores are huge. I have been to the Westbury, Douglaston and Stamford stores and all are quite large. I only wish the quality of produce and the prices were what they used to be.

Yeah the prices are a bummer. I only buy select items now; I have to go in with a shopping list these days, whereas I used to just browse for hours. But I won't be able to stay away I'm sure.

I know, I'm there every week, but with a list too. I used to do all of my shopping there, but not any more. Way too pricey.

I'm going to guess their total sales aren't down, or they'd change their strategy....and/or stop opening so many new stores!

If you want huge, try Wegmans (not on LI).

They are HUGE, like six Waldbaum stores area in one of them. It makes Fairway or Whole Foods look like a neighborhood bodega.

I had not realized Wegman's stores were so huge. I checked and their new proposed store in Montvale, NJ is 140,000 square feet. That's Costco size, and double what Fairway is now building. Wow. But not quite 6 times Waldbaums, at least not the ones that remain.

I was wondering where the next Fairway would be now that Nanuet (Rockland) is opening. I was sort of hoping for something further north in Westchester. Sigh.
