Grocery Outlet October 2013

Ruth Lafler Oct 2, 2013 01:33 PM

I popped into the Oakland GO late last night. Because it was late I didn't get to survey the shelves as closely as I might usually. Some things I saw:

Arrowhead Mills organic flours in 2-lb bags (Rice, Millet, Unbleached White and Cornmeal) -- $1.99

Rice Bran oil -- I think it was 12 ounces for $1.99

This week they had three different brands of coconut oil (sorry, Robert, I don't know if any of them have a strong coconut taste)

Bernstein's Salad dressings -- $2.79 (the Light Cheese Fantastico is the only bottled low-cal dressing I've ever liked!)

Oscar Meyer hickory smoked thick-cut bacon $3.99/22 ounces

Tillamook Sharp Cheddar. Two and one-half lbs. under $6. The Oakland store ran out, but Hayward (B Street) had plenty yesterday.

        In a Seattle area store:
D'Aquino Espresso coffee (TJ used to carry this)
        Evergood Bockwurst
        Ninkasi beers

Petaluma GO is the only store (I know of) that has the Alvarado Sprouted Berry bread. $2.19, compared to $2.99 at Trader Joe's and $4.99 at Raleys/Nob Hill.

The only loaf missing is the diabetic bread. Wonder what happened?

Why eat sprouted grain berries? http://sprouts.com/features/sprouted-...

            Oakland GO coffee find:

I picked up some "custom roasted and packaged for Oakland's Grocery Outlet " "Gold Mountain" French roast.

It was packaged in Emeryville... perhaps by McLaughlin Coffee Company? Which I have always liked.

It had a fine grind, perfect for paper filter brewing.( yeah, sometimes I just don't want the mess that whole bean grinding does to my coffee space)

It tasted great....ESPECIALLY for $6 for a 12 oz bag which comes out to $8/lb!

I will for sure buy this again.

Oakland has them too, or did a few days ago.

I bought the 2012 michel schlumberger merlot @ 5.99, I thought the 2011 was a very good value. New shelving in wine dept, lots of product unPriced. Wish they had had a small sharp cheddar. This time an item showed up on my receipt, a caramel apple for 1.99 that I did not buy, but apparently paid for. Not happy.

Perhaps the computer was confused and an item was read as a caramel apple. Was there something else in your bag for which you were charged $1.99 correctly or not?

It was the Oakland store and I couldn't recall another item I purchased that I was not charged.

I bought a bottle of Pierre Sparr Alsace 2010 Pinot Gris Reserve for $4.99 at the South SF GO today. This wine often retails for between $15 & $20.
