Anniversary Dinner Near Pasadena

Amribor Oct 2, 2013 12:09 PM

My anniversary is next Tuesday and I am looking for a romantic place near the Pasadena area. Both Malbec and Stoney Point have been recommended. I have never been to either. Any feedback about those two or any other suggestions greatly appreciated!

If you can give an example of food or restaurants you and your wife prefer, it will be much easier to give a recommendation. Where did you end up last time you posted?

      The Royce

      The Raymond

Parkway Grill (but only if you must)

Yes Parkway Grill while good not quite what I am looking for. The Royce is an interesting suggestion. Thanks!

We ended up at the Raymond that year revets. Honestly we like all kinds of food. I'm looking for great ambiance and service and good food. I am leaning toward Malbec based on a friends raving recommendation but not sure.

To me, Malbec isn't quite "special" enough for an anniversary (whereas the Raymond is). Yeah, Royce seems like more of a special occasion place, as does Vertical in Old Town. Alas, Noir food & wine no longer exists.

Trattoria Neapolis is a gorgeous space, though I hear (have not personally been) that the food doesn't quite measure up.

Agree with JackFlash on Malbec. Not quite special enough. Trattoria Neapolis is a nice space, but the food has really fallen short in my two visits there. Have not been to Royce, but it is assuredly special occasion.

JF has a good call on Vertical.

Haven't been to Claud & Co. yet, but all the feedback I get is very good about the food and service. Think this is German month. http://eateryonallen.com/food.html

If you like sushi, Kimagure is a special omakase experience (sit at sushi bar only), but it can be for more adventurous eaters.

Kind of surprised no one's mentioned Racion.

Racion: Another place I have yet to visit, but want to.

Have not tried Claud & Co., either, even though it's only a mile from my house. Only open a few days/week, but the frequently-changing menu has me intrigued.

I like Racion. Quite a bit, in fact.

But it is not a place that I find suitable for an anniversary.

I probably like Racion less than you do, but think the atmosphere may be more anniversary-like than Malbec. Can't disagree with you, though. It wouldn't be where I'd take my spouse, but different strokes, right?

I also don't consider Malbec "anniversary worthy" even though I like Malbec, and which is why I did not recommend it as well.

This is a depressing post for Pasadena. On the one hand, there's some great things happening in the area, but I guess not at this level.

Had a great meal at Orsa & Winston in DTLA. Would be worth the drive from Monrovia.
