Had read great things about this new spot and loved the vibe of the web site. Snagged an umbrella'd sidewalk table on a glorious fall Saturday, surrounded by views of magnificent restored 19th c. mill buildings and the falls that powered them. Browsing the lunch and supper menus, you see right away what these chef/owners are about and what makes them so special. They are young and inspired and creative, and they love hearty satisfying comfort food. 'Artisinal' or 'house made' are the operative words here- from charcuterie to condiments. We completely enjoyed everything we had but the starred items were truly stellar, worth a long drive just for themselves!:
Mixed Greens and Herbs- this is not your 'same old' mesclun mix. fresh fresh fresh , some very unique greens ,and BIG portion; excellent light dressing
Eggplant Parm Sandwich- exc. components but bread masks the flavors
***Korean Pastrami Sdwch with Kim Chee and Gojuchang Mayo- This is one of the best sandwiches I've had. Just spicy enough, the rich fatty silky pastrami spiked by the tang and spices and crunchy textures of the kim chee and dressing.
***Filthy Fries- thin , fried w/ abundant fresh sage and rosemary leaves, mixed with chewy seared chunks of pork belly and pastrami, and topped with plenty of shredded Parm. A veritable meal unto itself. Lions and tigers and bears oh my!....
Donut of the day, Boston Cream Pie, looked wonderful (i.e. not over-the-top gooey stuffed) but we were soooo full.
Can't wait to go back for dinner; counting the days! You lucky VTers you!
