Hi - we will be in SF for a meeting in October and want to dine with another couple following a reception at City Hall. Looking for good Italian in reasonable proximity to City Hall. Thank you in advance!

What is "reasonable proximity"? 54 Mint is a long walk, one BART stop, or a short cab ride from City Hall.

Civic Center is pretty much a food desert (for San Francisco). I will be checking this thread for suggestions.

Bar Jules and Zuni Cafe do some Italian dishes and are very good.

Caffe Delle Stelle and its spinoff Stelline are not bad though below average by SF's high standards.

Stelline was inedibly bad last time I ate there, and delle Stelle, while packed, hasn't been good for 10+ years.

Il Borgo is less pretentious and better, though I suspect not festive enough for a special occasion.

1760 is new. One mile away from City Hall, straight up Polk St.

Concur w/ suggestion re Zuni, if really good Cal-Italian (as opposed to Italian) fits the bill.

Also concur re thumbs down: Della Stella.

Perbacco (wonderful Italian) would be a 10-15 min. cab ride.
