Best Cocktails in Toronto

PoppiYYZ Sep 28, 2013 07:57 AM

New addition.

Recently stopped into The Museum for a pre-dinner cocktail and were delighted with the creativity, ingredients, and service. They have house oak aged spirits (the Sazerac was delicious) and Specials (a tequilla, ginger beer cocktail served in a copper mug that was also excellent). Nice cozy old school atmosphere and the smell of the dinner prep from the kitchen was intoxicating ! A real hit.

Any other suggestions for places with creative bartending and / or classics done right ?

I like the Toronto Temperance Society and the Harbord Room's cocktails.

Agreed with both of these. I'll also throw Weslodge into the mix. Loved the barrel aged Negroni I had there.

        Thanks Prima,

Does the TTS have Pappy Van Winkle by chance ? If this is a top secret, please just answer with a wink... ;-D

Not sure... I've only been brought as a guest, so I'm not familiar with their stock. Maybe another Hound can help?

Rooftop bar at the Park Hyatt. Maybe the best Martini in the city and a great view!

          Thanks all.

          Rooftop looks like a hit.

The Paddock is one of my favorite spots (although it's been a while), but I found the cocktails good, not great.

On a much older thread the Sidecar and Library bar at the RY get favorable mention. Library was good my last visit, any comments on either ?

My test drink is a Whiskey Sour. If they say they use bar mix from a plastic bottle, I order a beer and move on quickly ...

Sidecar makes very good cocktails, which is not surprising, since Toronto Temperance Society is just upstairs from there (same owners).

I make a stop at the Library Bar every visit to Toronto and it has never let me down. They make mix my favorite Old Fashioned in the city hands down.

Museum Tavern is excellent. If you are looking for a modern take on cocktails I would suggest trying out barchef as their cocktails are unlike anything served elsewhere.

Spirit House - best Old Fashioned in town imo.
Bar Chef - can't go wrong with any of the chef's recommendations.

Spirit House? Best OF in town? Need to give this place a try.

As far as Barchef is concerned, are there consistency issues there? My one visit was really disappointing, so I never bothered to give it another shot. I consistently see strong reviews on the place though so possibly it was an off night/bad bartender?

I wasn't impressed by my one experience at Barchef, so I didn't return, either.
