Giant stars?

melpy Sep 27, 2013 02:24 AM

What is with the giant stars on my list of threads I have contributed to? At first I thought that was what it denoted but I could only see them on that page, not on any other board. Blue dots are still there for posts I have read/written on. Did I miss a new roll out?

Thanks. I looked for new release notes but they must have been buried too far. Next time I will suck it up and search "release notes".

I wish the stars were dark and we clicked on them to unfollow. But it's just a matter of a little busier page than I'd prefer. I SO love this new feature. I've already 'dumped' at lease 20 threads. Not just annoying ones but the ones where I had one thing to say and no real interest in following. Congrats again and again.

I'm afraid I don't understand the large golden stars on my "profile" page. Although I clicked on stars next to threads in which I am no longer interested, and they greyed out, they still appear quite prominently on my page. How do I delete them?

Really? Hmm. Did you reload/refresh? (I don't know the right words!) I've not had that problem.

I don't think we can "destar" ourselves or anyone else. Only threads. I'm confused :) xo,c

Sorry. I meant I clicked the star next to the thread I didn't want to see any longer.

Clicking the stars to gray them out does, in fact, remove them from your list of followed threads; we just don't clear them from the page until the next time you load it. Try refreshing the page after turning a star gray and you'll see that the discussion is no longer listed. This is done to give you a way to easily re-follow a discussion in the event that you click one of the stars by accident.

Well, I did refresh the page and the threads I supposedly deleted are still there only now the blue dot is back. In fact, I refreshed when I originally clicked on the gold star, and I've reloaded the page a few more times since as well. There just seems to be a lot of clutter on my page.

When you're reloading the page, are you clicking reload or clicking on your name in the top right corner or going to a bookmark? I'm wondering if you're ending up on the page of all the threads you've participated on, rather than the following page? Reloading the following page or clicking your name in the top should get you back to the following page, but if you've got a bookmark from before this change, it'll currently still take you to the page of everything you've posted, not the new My Followed page.

Thanks , Jacquilynne. When I clicked on my name in the upper right corner the offending threads were gone.

If you've bookmarked your profile in your browser, I would recommend switching your bookmark link. Sounds like it's currently: http://www.chow.com/profile/75332

But instead you can make it be: http://www.chow.com/profile/75332/fol...

Thank you Dave! I changed the bookmark and now it's perfect.

Oh boy I can delete the Barilla thread, nothing left to be said.

Seems like the new rollout deleted useful threads/bookmarks I had saved from the past. Or rather, blended them in with all the my followed discussions. I don't suppose there is a way to get that back. Had some good ones going back to 2000...

                From the Release Notes (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/918281):

                7) There is no longer a way to "Save" a discussion, since our new Following feature replaces this. Your "My Followed Discussions" currently incorporates all discussions you've ever participated in, PLUS your previously saved discussions. However, if you still want to access the page that contains only your previously saved discussions,it is still available by following this url: http://www.chow.com/profile/#####/fav... (insert your profile number where you see the #####). We are only going to keep this page up for 1 or 2 weeks, so if you want to use other software or your browser to bookmark these discussions for future reference, you should do that now. Of course, unless you decide to unfollow them, they will always be a part of "My Followed Discussions."

[Edit: The URL had cut off (I've fixed it). The part after your profile number and slash is "favorites" without the quotes. So for you it would be chow.com/profile/13289/favorites.]

                  Yeah, not there. Damn shame.

Had some epic threads with good recs saved in there.

                  Oh well.

Did you see I put in an update because the URL was truncated from the cut-and-paste? I hadn't saved much in my short time on CH but what I did save before does appear when I go to my profile with /favorites after it in the URL.

Thanks buddy! Was able to bookmark those valuable threads for easy access.
