We have a collection of about a thousand recipes torn from the different cooking magazines. I want to scan them into a database program that will allow me to retrieve them by category, food type and ingredient if possible that can be input as keywords. Basically a document storage and retrieval program with keyword capability. Anyone have a suggestion. I don't want to have to type each one in by hand.

There's another active thread right now about recipe organizer apps/sites: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/917456

I can't speak for all of the ones described, but you can import recipes into Pepperplate (my preferred app/site), add categories or keywords, and then sort and search. Pepperplate will import recipes from most of the major food websites. If I come across a site that is "not supported," it just takes a minute or two of copy/paste work to add the recipe manually. And of course, any recipe that you only have on paper - not online - will need to be typed in. But hopefully your cooking magazines have websites...
