Thanks so much for any suggestions!!

How far do you consider driving distance?

Hopefully you're shooting something you can then cook.

It's been many years, so the place may be closed. But the last time I was in trial there the only semblance of a local, non-chain place was called the Railroad Restaurant, or Railway Restaurant. In an old building. Food was OK, but this was probably between 15 and 20 years ago.

Thanks, ya'll! Since these are long days, I'd probably say not more than 30 minutes.

I do eat meat, if that helps (I do miss me that Texas beef) . . . and I live in NYC, so I can get all the pissy food I want up here.

Am I correct that 30 minutes from Athens is still the middle of nowhere?

When in the country, I look for the good home cooking kinda places ... looks like they have some that might be good, as well as a catfish place.

Note the tagline for Arby's: "I'm thinking Arby's. What are YOU thinking?" Hopefully what you're thinking is printable.
          I'M thinking I hope you've missed Arby's.

Athens is not the end of the world. But you CAN see the end of the world from there!
