Simple as a... salad bar. I'm looking for a reasonably priced salad bar in the East Village.

Hey all,

Relatively healthy eater here with a relatively slim wallet.

I love salad bars but I'm not up for paying Bowery Whole Foods' $8.99 a pound.

I found an amazing salad bar in Chelsea -- inside the grocery store in Chelsea Market. They charge either $4.99 or $5.99 a pound and I come out less than $5, which is what I'm hoping to pay in the East Village.

Not looking for a sit-down affair either -- that's easier to find.

I'm open to regular old delis too, as long as the food is fresh.

Thanks for any ideas!

Rob

And I'd take a good pre-made salad too, if it came out to $5 or so.

I think (although not sure) that Sunny & Annie—the excellent deli at 6th Street and Avenue B—has salads in conjunction with their really tasty sandwiches.

I don't know what they cost, but you should look at the pre-made salads at Union Market too (Houston and Avenue A).

I went by Sunny & Annie's today and it's $8 plus tax for a salad.

Union Market has some cheap stuff.

I have to check out Trader Joe's as well.

Aw, bummer—their sandwiches are delicious though, if you ever find yourself in need of a good sandwich.

Just have 1/2 lb at Whole food salad bar and choose wisely-then your meal will only be $4.50! Supplement your protein and fat intake by dumping roasted sunflower seed from Trader Joes on salad-which only cost $1.99/lb!

A $5 premade salad in nyc is usually from trader joes.... Their baby kale one is actually really good!
Look at Paradis, depends what you order- all premade salads- healthy veg, vegan and omni options with large selection of daily specials:

Whole Foods would have been my suggestion at that price.

There's a salad place on Lafayette just below Houston, but the name escapes me. Park, something or other?

Aren't there prepared (i.e., boxed) salads at WF that are usu. around the $5 range?

I just know that the WF salad bar (at least the one in Columbus Circle) is pretty darn good, and a bargain considering you're MIdtown adjacent) even at $8.99/pound.

The Houston St. one is the same. Sometimes they even have one day specials where it's even cheaper.

I found a solution even closer to home than I expected. St. Mark's Market has a small section of pre-made salads for $5. Pretty good ones too! Thanks everyone for the ideas...

Is that the place you walk down a few stairs to?

That's right. Never tried the prepared foods, but it's not a bad little market if I'm passing through the area and need to pick up something basic.
