New even more annoying ads?

Today I was quieting minding my own business reading down a long thread when BAM.... my screen suddenly is replaced with some ad I have to sit and wait for to close to get back to content. That's even more annoying than all the ad videos running on the side of the screen. Please don't say this is the way Chow is going now!

  1. Click to Upload a photo (10 MB limit)
  1. I thought it was my computer doing something crazy again, but nope you just confirmed it. Click the back button to get rid of the offending ad. I figured it out after a couple.

    1. Is this on CHOW or Chowhound? I never go to Chow and haven't had the problem on CH.

      1. Does anyone remember what the ad was for? If you see it again please take a screen shot. We have a policy against ads like this on Chow and Chowhound and will block ads like this from getting through if we know where they are coming from.

Meshane, this is what I posted on another thread on the same topic: - I did include the link that appeared in the menu bar when the invasive page appeared on the browser.

Mine was like this, but it was for some sort of survey.

Just got one seconds ago. Lindt's chocolate with a 2 dollar off offer.

          3. Have you tried installing something like AdBlock? It is free software to block ads.

            1. Did it just happen or did you accidentally roll over the ad? I found on some sites that happens when my cursor wanders over an ad by accident.

Nope was just reading a chowhound thread. Not even touching the keyboard at the time

This happened to me the other day too. I was on the bottom of the page, no ads in sight, just reading something; all of a sudden a man was talking about shopping at Lowes. With all the viruses out there, it scared the bejesus out of me.

We also noticed that ad last night and have since had it removed. Please let us know if you see anything else like it.

As for the full-page ads that prompted this discussion, we're still working on tracking them down; our sincere apologies for the continued annoyance.

Hi, engineering guys... Are you aware that Google now has a new program that "auto-attaches" to all Google accounts (which come automatically if you use an Android based device or the Google search engine) that basically nails people in to accepting the pop-up ads unless you go to your Google account and manually opt out of their 'partner's advertising program," or whatever they call it.? Once I did that, my pop-up blockers started working again!

                        Just a thought....
