New Japan-Based Ramen resto coming? (Notorious PIG can you shed light?)

From the above Grid article, Sansotei's owner reveals that a new japan based ramen joint is on its way. Could it be Ippudo?? (please let it be Ippudo!

If anyone here knows about this, it would be P.I.G

  1. Haha!

There's been a bunch of Ramen shops from Japan looking for space here for awhile. In fact, there are a lot of chains, and Japan based restaurants looking to open here and have been for a long time. Like, back to when I was a kid. Whether or not they actually ever open up remains to be seen.

found the corresponding page of the store in Japan, on tabelog. Photos look good, ranking #2 for ramen in Tachikawa... but around #100 in the entire Tokyo region. It's interesting how a small restaurant would decide to open another store half way around the world like that :)

That is interesting. I wonder why Toronto?? There are so many challenges with accurately translating authentic ramen to another continent (flour, water, quality of ingredients), hope they do well!

        2. re: themiguel

I'm fairly certain it isn't. I posted back on the Openings thread in September where I spotted this (650 Yonge). The sign did have Sansotei on it (though not the name of the new restaurant). It is still papered up.

pretty sure its the queen st one OP is talking about. Not a second sansotei location.

            1. re: szw

Yeah there is definitely a second Sansotei location around Yonge and Bloor AND a new place by Queen and Spadina which will focus on fish broths apparently?

              1. re: mnajji

Thanks. If the OP is referencing the 2nd Sansotei location, then the link posted refers to the one I spotted near Yonge/Bloor.

The second link (Touhenboku Ramen) referenced by the OP is on Queen West and it looks like they are going to focus on chicken broth (according to that grid article anyway). Fish or chicken, it's nice having an option other than pork. (Not sure if there is any relationship with Sansotei).
